For different reasons – some likely to have been out of your control – you might not have been able to book a newborn photography session. But that’s ok. There’s no need to miss out. Because capturing baby a little older can be just as magical. Not many people will know that there’s a difference between newborn and baby photography sessions. And unless you’re a photographer, why would you?
“But capturing baby a little older can be just as magical”
So, newborn photography is at the most earliest stage of baby. It is usually between 5-14 days. I often take sessions for older newborns up to 6 weeks old too. At these sessions we capture the tiny details, swaddle and poses in their comfy foetal position. Or we simply show just how tiny your newborn is! Once baby reaches 2 -3 months, the ‘new’ born has grown into baby!! To find out more about newborn sessions, clink the link below.
Baby photography, as shown above, is slightly different because baby is now at a different stage of development. They are likely to be more alert. And interested in their surroundings. Depending on the age of baby at the session, depends on the interaction and expressions. And because of this I usually suggest booking these sessions when they are between 5-9 months old. Which is when they are likely to be cooing, smiling, lifting their head at tummy time, and/or sitting up unaided. We all know that every baby develops at different paces. But these are all perfect moments to capture on camera. They certainly make for beautiful photographs and just the experience itself is something to treasure.
So if you feel like you missed out of having professional photographs taken of your beautiful bundle, this could be the perfect alternative. At this age between 5-9 months, they are still smaller than they will be in another year’s time! They still have their incredibly cute button nose. And they still have their adorable full cheeks and little hands and toes.
