There’s something about my natural wedding photography style that attracts the cutest of couples to me. Some of the best, most loveliest and kindest people. And Kirsty and Paul are one of those couples. I remember receiving a message through my Instagram page from Kirsty. They had both popped to see me at a local wedding fair, but things were super busy so we didn’t get the opportunity to chat. I had hoped to invite them both to my studio, but the universe had other plans. The global pandemic was looming and everyone was starting to be super careful and considerate.
And their story begins…
It was a good while until we properly met at my studio to talk all about Kirsty & Paul’s wedding plans. But it was so nice getting back to some sort of normality after being in lockdown for so long – I now wonder if I might have talked the ears off them both! We arranged their Pre-Wedding Session, something I love to offer with my full day Wedding Collections. They chose a great location near to their wedding venue choices. A place I had visited a couple of times whilst running and exploring Lincolnshire.

There’s something about heading out in nature to a quiet spot, camera in hand and chatting with my couples. I know most are either nervous – and if not – a little uncomfortable about the thought of their photography session. But once we get walking, chatting and shooting, it all comes fairly easily. Getting out of the studio is often key to this feeling of being more comfortable around the camera. On this occasion, we were blessed with some gorgeous evening sunlight dappling through the tress. We talked all about how they envisaged their wedding to be – and it sounded beautiful. Turns out – my natural wedding photography style was just what they was looking for!
The day of the wedding
Kirsty’s parents house was filled with a quiet excitement. Relaxed and calm – but also with a sense of anticipation in the air. Younger bridemsaids played and filled their time, whilst the grown ups rallied around to help prepare however they could. I loved witnessing and recording glances of how Kirsty’s parents would look at her. You could see their proud beaming smiles as they spent the morning with her getting ready.

I had already seen Paul when I went to get some detail photographs of their afternoon venue. I could see he was full of emotion. Overcome with emotion. Paul is a chap who wears his heart on his sleeve. And he was super excited to marry Kirsty. Super nervous too. You could see he just wanted the day to run smoothly. Every little detail had been considered. Lots of time, love and effort had been put into the planning of this wedding. So when I went to meet Paul at St. Wilfred’s Church in Alford, I wasn’t surprised to see him keeping busy, chatting away with his groomsmen and welcoming everyone into Church.

Surprises in the speeches
After the official Church celebration – which included some super tasty ice-cream – we headed over to the stunning Sailcloth Tent at Greenfields Farm. It wasn’t long before we got into the entertainment. A fun quiz about the couple – their first date experience, how long they had been together, plus some funny stories thrown in. And then we got to the speeches. Teary eyed moments with the Father of the Bride’s words. Similar with Paul’s. And eruptions of laughter with the Best Man’s. Especially when a surprise guest appearance from no other than Mr. Blobby arrived. I had to make sure my own laughter was contained so I could make sure I documented all the reactions and expressions!

From the bottom of our hearts – thank you! We’re over the moon with our album, it’s absolutely beautiful. We truly are so grateful for what you’ve done for us, you’ve captured our day perfectly and your work is amazing!

Relaxed and natural
Of course we had to get out into the fields for Kirsty and Paul’s couple shots. It would have been a crime not to! The beauty of the nature surrounding their venue needed to be documented. And it allowed for some more relaxed photographs too. I try to disappear amongst the greenery or crop – sneakily popping up to capture some shots. This is the time that my couples get to catch up. To talk freely about how much they are loving their day. A perfect way to get some beautiful, natural shots with natural smiles.

I am super pleased that I got the opportunity to offer my natural wedding photography style to Kirsty and Paul. I’ve enjoyed getting to know them both during our catch ups. And it was a pleasure to be part of a celebration that was clearly filled with love. With amazing friendships. And with family that clearly couldn’t be more happy for the newly married couple.
