When I’ve researched into wedding planning, I read that the average newly engaged couple spends approximately 12 – 18 months planning their wedding. That seems like a reasonable amount of time to enjoy the process of planning, with the aim of keeping it stress-free! I imagine factors such as budget and costs can contribute to timing. But also the choice of venues and wedding supplier availability must play a large part.
As a wedding photographer, I book a year to two years in advance. Summer wedding dates obviously book up fast. Prime days such as Saturdays can book up in advance of two to three years in some cases! {To find out more about my Wedding Photography Collections, click the button below}
Thursdays, Fridays and even Sundays are becoming more popular with brides and grooms, allowing everyone to enjoy a whole weekend of celebrations. Which brings me on to my story…

…One evening in January 2007, my hubby and I decided on our wedding date. {The story goes that I told him when we were getting married after he returned home from the pub one night – but I recall it differently!} We chose to marry on our 10 year anniversary to the very day – which turned out to be a Thursday mid August 2007!
As a former wedding novice and with little experience of weddings {I was a guest at maybe two before getting married}, we didn’t even consider things might be booked up or full. Thankfully we were fortunate with our choices. Mostly because it was a Thursday and we chose to have a fairly small wedding.

Wedding Planning: My 5 top tips to consider
From this experience, and from working in the wedding industry for more than 7 years, I’ve put together some quick ideas on where to start when on a ‘time budget’…
- Consider a weekday wedding so you have more choice on venues and wedding suppliers
- Consider working with a wedding planner so you have guidance right throughout your planning
- I always suggest meeting with your wedding suppliers. Especially your wedding photographer as you’ll spend a whole day with them
- Use recommendations from family and friends. But ask why it is that they recommend them to make sure it’s worthwhile checking them out
- Put time aside each week to tick off your ‘wedding to-do list’ so that you don’t get overwhelmed or stressed. Share the task with supportive family and friends so you can share ideas. Enjoy the wedding planning journey with fun days out researching.
I hope this blog post is useful. If you’re getting married and on a ‘time budget’ then let me know how you are getting on.
